Wake up with the Sunrise Chia Parfait
A sunrise marks the beginning of a new, fresh day. And the Sunrise Chia Parfait? That’s the perfect way to breakfast to ensure your morning nutrition feels as good to you as abundant sunshine ☀️.
Village Juice Co. launched their breakfast menu on March 4th, and if you are anything like me, you were kicking the doors down to try a new breakfast item. I couldn’t wait to indulge in the amazing health goodness VJ has to offer, especially now that my favorite meal of the day was available.
Deciding what to have for breakfast can be overwhelming when there are so many delicious options at Village Juice Co. That’s why VJC is excited to launch a weekly blog highlight of menu items to help you make the best choice for your body and health. To kick off #ManiFreshToMonday, I am going to break down the Sunrise Chia Parfait bowl for all of you dedicated VJC lovers.
FIRST OF ALL...WHAT ARE CHIA SEEDS?
If you are a reader from the 1980s, hearing “chia” probably triggers the catchy ring “Cha-cha cha-cha-chia!”. (Yes, it’s stuck in my head now too). Yet, beyond the catchy and sprouting plant commercial, the emergence of chia seeds as a functional food has become just as popular as the famous jingle.
Chia seeds are great for digestion (roughly 11 grams of fiber per serving) and considered a complete plant protein because it holds all nine essential amino acids our bodies cannot produce independently. They are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, providing energy and function support in blood vessels, the endocrine system, the heart (and more). The “superfood” (or functional food) optimizes your overall health beyond just basic nutrition while potentially reducing disease.
NOW, WELCOME TO ‘THE SUNRISE CHIA PARFAIT’:
Plain chia seed pudding has a very bland taste but when you infuse a tang of orange and thicken it with housemade cashew milk? Catch me drooling all the way to 4th street! Village Juice’s new chia parfait is mixed with creamy, homemade, cashew milk with an orange zest and almond crumble. The chia seeds and almond crumble adds your morning protein while your carbohydrate need is found with clean, refreshing strawberries, mangos and blackberries. For extra sweetness, Village Juice doesn’t disappoint with the drizzled G-Money Honey (locally made!) to top it off. With this breakfast, you’ll be singing with the birds as the sun rises.
Village Juice’s breakfast menu is served weekdays 7AM-10:30AM and all day Saturday-Sunday (10AM-5PM).
Did you know?
While all foods are functional to an extent, some seem to show larger potential in helping you fight off chronic disease and well, feel great. Examples include salmon, eggs, nuts and berries (just to name a few).
Chia seeds can hold up to 10-12 times their weight in water to their high fiber content (which creates their gel-like texture when mixed with liquid).
For my vegans and egg-allergy sufferers, chia seeds make a great substitute for eggs in baking because of their absorption!
The word “chia” means “strength” in Mayan
